Child Custody & Support

Compassionate Stuart Child Support and Child Custody Lawyers

The compassionate lawyers and staff at Gufford & Brandt, A Partnership of Professional Associations, provide individualized guidance to clients seeking the resolution of child custody and support issues.

Child Custody

Custody is a frequently contested issue that must be dealt with whenever children are involved, regardless of whether the parties are getting divorced or have never been married. We keep the best interests of the children in mind when determining custody arrangements, parenting time, and visitation. Though we encourage clients to handle these matters outside of court or through the mediation process, we are aggressive in our defense of these cases and will take child custody matters to trial, if necessary.

Relocation

Relocation is an issue that is often addressed  either in an initial custody action or after an initial custody order  has been established. Florida Statute 61.13001 specifically addresses the issue of relocation. This statute prevents a residential parent from relocating their residence more than 50 miles unless the parties enter into a written agreement before the move or a court approves the relocation. We have successfully prosecuted and defended relocation actions throughout the 19th Judicial Circuit. Read more about  the relocation statute and the cases interpreting it here. Relocation.

Child Support Obligations

Determined by a mathematical formula, child support obligations in Florida can cause parents a great deal of stress. We handle cases in which clients are either seeking the payment of child support, or are attempting to minimize their parental obligations. The knowledgeable attorneys at Gufford & Brandt, A Partnership of Professional Associations are fluent in the technical language of the child support laws, and we work hard to ensure that our clients’ child support calculations are done correctly. Recent changes to the child support laws as well as inputting income to unemployed/underemployed parents can have a significant impact on the outcome of your case.

Our firm also handles the enforcement and/or modification of any child support or child custody orders that have been previously established.
